So Why PAT Test?
What the regulations stipulate: Regulation 4 (2) of the Electricity at Work Act States- It is
neccessary to prevent danger. All systems shall be maintained so far as is reasonably practically possible to prevent such
danger.
"So what does this act mean" It is therefore, the responsibility of all
employers to ensure all electrical appliances used by their employees are safe and pose no risk of injury.
Risk- Appliances are categorised into a risk assessment system used by the IEE (Institute
of Electrical Engineers) determined by how appliances are used and whom is using them.
Why- Portable Appliances are used everyday in the workplace. All these appliances require
attention at some stage in their working life. Leads, plugs and appliances can become damaged. This may result in an electrical
shock or sometimes fire. For this reason the appliances require testing by a competent engineer.
